Sorry if my comment was not clear. When I say that health benefits will be taken away from heterosexual couples, I was referring to straight couples who are not married but have children. I would never try to influence anyone's vote but I believe everyone should be well informed about anything they vote for or against. I am in no way trying to be deceptive. The bill will do as follows...

The measure would define marriage in the state constitution as between one man and one woman, and would ban any other type of "domestic legal union" such as civil unions and domestic partnerships.[1][2]

This includes gay and straight couples. Civil unions and domestic partnerships are not exclusively gay. It will add the ban on same-sex marriage to the NC state constitution but that is not the only effect the bill would have.

I believe everyone should vote as they see fit and I am not advocating for one side or the other, I am only advocating for informed voters.

In reply to <a href="https://tooverflowing.com/would-jesus-vote/#comment-1741">karen</a>.

the above statement is not clear - she says that the bill will take away benefits for families and children in heterosexual relationships??? I think she means homosexual relationships because in her next statement she is talking about just the opposite. This amendment is necessary so the court system cannot change the current law or a governor. Go to www.jdgreear.com for a accurate Biblical answer to this. Also lawyers at Campbell law school say this is not true. The above statement about families loosing their insurance is not true at all - it is the people who are opposed to the amendment who are being deceptive and trying to make this an issue about children.

Great perspective. Really, really good. Ultimately if we call ourselves His children, then we are simply accountable to Him and His Word. And yes, sadly, sometimes it means choosing the lesser of the "evils" as you put it. Prayerful with you. And thanks for stopping by!

You ask an interesting question. I had pretty much made up my mind to not vote. I was tired of regretting my vote. When telling a friend this she begged me to reconsider. "OK", I said, "convince me". She then went on to explain that my vote only had to be for the best candidate on the ticket. I was not given an opportunity to personally place the candidates, but I was accountable for my vote in the election. God places authorities in power and He allowed the particular candidates to be on the ballot, and all I could do was my best for Him.
Wow, I never thought of it that way and now I will sadly go to the poll and choose the lesser of two evils to run this country.

But, that is OK because I serve the one who will overcome, again, in the end! I refuse to live in fear because He is my joy.
I have never been to your blog before, but I will be back because you have been encouragement in my day, thank you.
