Whitney Houston’s death got to me last night. Probably because after scrolling through a couple of articles about her — one of my teen “idols” — I then read three more depressing news stories — one about cancer another about politics and a third about a girl being shot in a church. In a church.
This world. It’s broken.
That’s one reason I need my red chair. Well. Not the chair itself, but Who I meet in that chair every morning.

I need reminding on a daily basis that this isn’t it. We temporarily pass through this world, sojourning to something bigger. Sojourning as aliens. {Insert Lecrae’s “Aliens” here.} There’s more than just this broken here and now. Thank you, Jesus.
I have to remember because otherwise the weight of all the earth-happenings could press me into a hopeless pile. Yet hope forever exists with Him.
As for you, O Lord, you will not restrain
your mercy from me;
your steadfast love and your faithfulness will
ever preserve me!
Psalm 40:11
Sitting in that red chair, I look to the Author and Finisher. The Lover of my soul. Then I ever-imperfectly choose to set my eyes on Him. I close the Pages and lace up my shoes, ready to run this faith-race again today. All by His grace. All under the covering of His matchless love.
Fill me, Lord…
Where do you go to get away with Him?
P.S. Happy Valentine’s Day.

In my brown leather chair in front of the fireplace. With my leopard snuggie. He never fails.

Thank you. I needed this today. A lot. Love, Jenn

Jenn, I totally agree. I don’t take the pain of this world lightly. Just reading that post from nogreaterjoymom.com has the potential to flatten me. But instead I pray that He will move me. Just move us as the church forward in great love and passionate faith, using us to bring light into the deep, deep darkness. Praising Him that *He* has the final say, not this evil running rampant all around us.
