I remember being in junior high, sitting at my desk, probably wearing acid washed jeans and high-tops, wanting to write a book. I would get a fresh black-and-white composition journal, open to the first page, write two sentences…and then give up.
“How could anyone ever write an entire book?!”
I didn’t like English class. I couldn’t diagram sentences. I couldn’t spell words. And my research papers were compilations of quotes from encyclopedias. Yet something in me wanted to write a book?
I’m telling you. I am not a writer. I’m not. The natural me can’t do any of this. But God had a plan. I truly believe that He put a seed of desire in my young, foolish heart. A seed that He would eventually water and grow. A calling that He would bring about.
He crafted you and me in our mother’s womb. (Psalm 139) He did it. And He has eternal God-vision for each of us.
The problem comes when we don’t begin with Him in our planning and dreaming. We act like 12-year-olds who run around from thing to thing or church to church or taste to taste assuming that He will follow behind us and bless. But when we do that, we miss it.
He’s got some things for each of us to accomplish. Things that can have eternal effects. But knowing what those things are begins and ends with communion. Not bread and wine communion. I mean, communing with Him in the moments of today.
Sitting still before Him. Waiting for Him to open or close the doors. Trusting Him to lead. Knowing that the adventure He has for us can’t even compare to our tiny little human plans.
For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.
Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will hear you.
You will seek me and find me, when you seek me with all your heart.
Jeremiah 29:11-13
I don’t know if you believe it yet, but I’m telling you. This God of ours is very huge. And good. And wild. And sovereign. And amazing. He knows every single hair on your head. He thinks about you constantly. And He has God-vision for you, my friend. Really big God-vision.
Maybe today’s the day to start asking what it is He had in mind.
Fill me, Lord…
Have you ever dreamed big with God?
What dream has He put in you?
I haven’t read it (yet!) but Holley Gerth has a new book out called You’re Made for a God-Sized Dream. And knowing what I know about Holley, I am certain this book will encourage. Click here to read more about it. (And no I don’t get paid to tell you that.)

I love this truth. I especially love what it implies…that there is room for everyone. I don’t have to struggle to get people to pay attention to me or feel bad that others are doing better than me when I allow myself to rest in His will, His plans, His timing. There is room for us all to do our God-things. That is so freeing to me.
God has given me a hope and a dream, and it’s so refreshing to just live it out – no striving to make it happen for me…just living day by day so He can make it happen for His glory.
GOOD STUFF, Lara. Praying for you as your release date draws near.
