Sometimes we commit ourselves to a thing that we don’t always *feel* like finishing. It gets hard and the easy-logical choice would be to stop running. To sit down on the sidewalk and pick daisies…or something.
But here’s the thing about feelings. They’re real. Believe me, I *feel* lots of emotions about ev.ery.thang. But they aren’t reliable. They’re slippery and volatile. They deceive us and try to push us around. (Jer. 17:9)
To “commit” means “to bind ourselves to a certain course”. It means we press through the hard and endure until we cross that proverbial finish line. It means we set our eyes on the goal rather than getting bogged down in the muddy now. (Hebrews 12:1-2)
It means we look the feelings head-on and then politely squash them.
Endure, friends. Through whatever season He has you, press on. Put one foot in front of the other. Rest in His grace for our yesterday and trust in His grace for what’s ahead. Just stay the course. He didn’t promise ease. He promised provision.

To all of those who committed with me to memorize Jesus’ sermon on the mount, it’s week 6. Keep on, sweet friends. I’m running with you.
Fill me, Lord…
How are you having to endure these days?
What encourages you to press on?
Lauren L. says
Yup, I needed that. What causes me to sit down before the finish line? Distraction. Too many boxes on my checklist. Exaustion, mental and physical. Time to put on the Big Girl pants!
Lara Gibson Williams says
Distraction. Yes. (And you made me laugh with your “big girl pants” comment.)

Thank you for the encouragement to press on. We sure are getting a lot of verses to say! 🙂

I needed this today. Thank you for this reminder. He is near. He is providing.

Thanks for the unsubtle (is that even a word?) encouragement that I need to push through the excuses and focus on Him!
Lara Gibson Williams says
Ha. Unsubtle. I think it’s a word. Press on, friend.

when i see others giving up on something, i tend to want to give up as well. my ‘feelings’ say, “why do you give of yourself and care when no one else does?”
a lie, i know, but so easy to listen to. thanks for sharing this today!

Recently I was extremely low on money and debts were eating me from all sides! That was UNTIL I decided to make money.. on the internet. I went to surveymoneymaker dot net, and started filling in surveys for cash, and surely I’ve been far more able to pay my bills! I’m so glad, I did this!! With all the financial stress these years, I really hope all of you will give it a chance. – hpmy
