It’s the constancy that can drain me. And I’m talking more than the “can I have this” or “I need that.” Though, believe me, the requests keep coming. But it’s more than just external demands from outside little sources. It’s the constant pull at this mother’s soul that can weigh me down.
Do you feel it? The constancy?
It doesn’t matter how many — if any — children we have. We as moms and moms-to-be feel the continual strain within. The emotions grab us hour by hour, moment by moment, tempting us toward a wearing-thin.
We want more or less or quiet or peace or peace-and-quiet.
We pray and guide and train and repeat…again.
We intercede and beg Him, “please,” with tears that fall from fears.
The constant pulling at our souls. Because our souls stay attached to mama desires.
Yet all the while He remains…constant.
The Lord is good,
a stronghold in the day of trouble;
he knows those who take refuge in him.
Nahum 1:7
I think of myself as a reminderer. (Not a word.) A stirrer-upper. (Also not a word.) But we need reminding.
When our emotions wear us ragged — even on this Mother’s day — there’s only one place where we find lasting peace. It’s in Him. Let’s remember to run into Him. He remains forever constant, always surrounding our humanity and ready to mend.
Happy Mother’s Day, sweet sister-friends.
Fill me, Lord…
Do you feel that constant strain on your mother-heart?
How do we take refuge in God?

I needed to hear this today. My hubby is gone for this Mother’s Day (long-haul trucker with a weekend run), so I’m not anticipating much of a special day. With two young ones fighting colds, your words are an extremely timely reminder to find my constancy and strength in Him. Thank you!

Marleah, I’ll pray for you. I’m on my own today too — my man had to work as well. But it’s just a day. In their hearts they appreciate us, even if these little ones can’t express it. Praying we avoid thoughts of “rights.” Our Lord equips us for our today calling. Blessings, sister.
