If I trace my finger back, I find hopelessness at the root. Which is ironic considering I had just finished writing a Bible study called “Abounding Hope.” Proof that knowing isn’t the same as believing. Proof that words as are pointless if they don’t penetrate the heart.
Whenever we stare at this earth and circumstance and (subconsciously) determine that something is hopeless, we officially invite an attack. Because hopelessness makes us vulnerable. It convinces us that we should grasp for some solution or relief rather than wait for God to move.
I don’t know where your heart is today but consider this a warning. If there is any situation, any relationship, any struggle that we secretly consider hopeless, then we must beware. Hopelessness sets us up for a fall because hopelessness means we’re focused on what we see rather than the Source of all hope.
Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful.
Hebrews 10:23The hope of the righteous brings joy.
Proverbs 10:28And everyone who thus hopes in Him purifies himself as He is pure.
1 John 3:3
With God all things are possible. All. Things. He brings dead things to life. He speaks and worlds form. He puts broken things back together. He works every single thing together for our good and His glory.
Regardless, there’s Hope because God reigns. Period.
Fill me, Lord…
How have you wrestled with hopelessness lately?
What truths of our God can you choose to meditate upon to stir up hope in your spirit?
Shelby says
Thank you, Lara! I have a burden, and I didn’t realize that I had allowed myself to feel hopeless about it. I get very discouraged, and while I tell God I trust Him, deep down I feel it’s a hopeless cause. I know my will is in line with God’s will (it has to do with the salvation of a loved one), so that means there is hope. There is so much room for God to work and show Himself mighty! Sometimes I think you have been reading my journals, girlfriend. Your words are always just what I need to hear. God is using you!
Lara Gibson Williams says
“There is so much room for God to work and show Himself mighty!” Such a great perspective. Some days it is a continual, purposeful, pressing into Him for that hope to arise. But it’s so true. When we turn our hearts and minds back to His character, hope has to stir. Love to you, sister. 🙂

Amen!
Sister says
That I’ll ever meet a man with the same call to serve and work in the Kingdom as me!
Lara Gibson Williams says
Oh sister, that is such a deep longing in a woman’s soul. I pray that you would be able to continually lay those desires at His feet, trusting that He sees the beginning from the end and He always always moves out of love. He hasn’t forgotten you. He simply wants what’s best for His daughter. (And best doesn’t mean easy.) Bloom where He has you planted today, eyes staring at the Lover of your soul.
Sister says
I’m working on it. So true though…that He wants the best for me. And He will give me the best! Matt 7:9-11.

Wonderful post. Loads of truth.
Lara Gibson Williams says
Good to “see” you Johanna. I pray you are doing well — encouraged and pressing on in faith.
