I’m traveling to Texas on Thursday to speak at the Declare Conference. (Can I get a yee-haw?!) I am SO excited.
In preparation, the Declare organizers asked the attendees to introduce ourselves via our blogs. Sooo, here’s some stuff you may not know about me (and some stuff you may want to now forget that you know about me). Feel free to share some things about yourself in the comments below. (No really. I want to know about your endearing quirks.)
4 things about me:
- I want to be poured out for Jesus,
- but I’m a mess, always desperately needy for grace.
- I didn’t choose homeschooling and mini-van driving; they both chose me (while I was kicking and screaming saying I would “never” do either). But my God always does good, holy things.
- I like olives and redeemed rap music.
4 of my irritating endearing quirks (per my husband):
- I have a lighting fettish. (i.e. I like lamps on at night rather than overhead lights. And I like the little light over the oven on…all. the. time.)
- I like artsy, analog clocks. And I like to have one in every room of our house. Issues.
- I say “um” and “awesome” and “anyway” too much…especially in videos. Exhibit A.
- And when I’m on the phone I sometimes end sentences with a drawn out “buuuut.” I don’t know why I do that, except that I don’t really like to talk on the phone.
4 things about my blog and writing:
- When I first started blogging I had twelve — count them, 12 — blog followers for months and years. (But Heather reminded me that so did Jesus, so it’s all good.)
- I’m only a writer in as much as God makes me a writer — writing is not a “natural” talent of mine. (I have college and post-college research papers covered in red ink to prove it.)
- Over the years, writing has become a place of sweet worship, prayer, and release. (A total gift from my God.)
- When I write, I picture you and me sitting together chatting over a cup of coffee.
4 of my favorite things (well, my favorites are Jesus, the Bible, and my family but those sound so churchy soooo…):
- Fat straws (like these) from which to drink water. (And no, I don’t get anything for telling you about their fantasticness.)
- Coffee and a quiet corner.
- Yoga pants, ‘er day.
- Jazz music while cooking something semi-fancy.
Your turn…

Lara, I love this interesting information about you. Now I feel like I know you better. I am so envious of you and Declare. I so want to attend but financially I couldn’t do it this year due to health issues I had in June with my heart. Have a blast and learn lots you can share.

Sorry it isn’t going to work out for you to come, Angie. Stuff like that can be so disappointing. But good to hear you are on the mend. Take care!

I love learning these things about you.
I too was chosen for homeschooling, my special needs child no less. And I’m still kicking and screaming…..you must share your secrets because I’m no teacher :).
And coffee, a quiet corner and yoga pants are my best friends. You’ll probably see me in them at Declare.
Hope we get to chat and say more than a hello this time!
Leigh

I definitely don’t have many secrets when it comes to homeschooling. I mainly just repeat the prayer, “Lord help me.” Looking forward to seeing you. 🙂

Oh Lara how similar we all are those we try to be different. I love your writing they include us all. We have lived in our home 41 years and have had the light over the sink on every night. Nothing is better than alone time with a cup of coffee, some Oreos and God. An addiction I have given my children. Writing is difficult for me and I am a administrative secretary with lots of writing I struggle so. Then I just close my eyes and say okay and I suddenly am finished. Why I don’t do that first is beyond me. When my children were young I struggled and struggled with pulling them out of public school 3 blocks away and putting them in our church’s school where they would have to be bussed. It is a decision I will never regret.

I love that you keep your oven light on. 🙂 Blessings to you!

Lara, I loved getting to know you I feel like I know you so much better God chose me to be a teacher in a Christian school, be a mom of twin boys who are seniors and that makes me a bit sad, wife to my own Mr. Darcy and so that means Pride and Prejudice is my favorite book. I love hot tea as much as possible…I have never understood the idea of drinking it cold. I love to write and journal and my soul loves Jesus and so glad he sees I am a work in progress. I need quiet or I am quite cranky and I love dancing to Keith Urban and many Christian artists.

I just love your list! And I too need quiet or I get cranky. Thanks for sharing. 🙂

Wow, Lara – I love your post. I love how real you are with how you didn’t choose homeschooling or mini-van driving… And I hate to talk on the phone. Also – I really love your last four: fat straws, coffee (it would be tea for me) in a quiet corner, yoga pants, jazz music while cooking dinner. You had fun with this! …I should’ve had more fun with mine. 😉 So excited to meet you in a few days.

Fat straws are definitely wonderful. And yoga pants are pretty much my uniform if I am in my house. Looking forward to meeting you!

The amazing thing about my life- I LOVE JESUS and am overwhelmed by His grace
The reasons, amongst many, being:
1. While I am writing this I am playing the part of Prince Charming for my 3 year old with a small plastic Prince Charming doll. I should JUST be playing Prince Charming and not half-bumming (mommy mouth) both. Honestly there are a lot of other things I should be doing right now but blog commenting/doll playing allows me to sit quietly on the ground.
2. I talk about you and your blog like I personally know you, however I would be awkward and loopy if we did ever meet for two reasons. 1-I really think you are great and am super thankful God allowed me to stumble upon your blog so… I would ramble those things to you. 2-Because my stay at home mommy brain is really confused about which interactions really happen vs what i just read (like your blog) or see (like my husbands bosses family on a Christmas card)- yes I waved and smiled emphatically, like they were my best friends, from across the room at a function -though they had never EVER met me.
3. I have a craft box AND I REALLY want to do crafts. But I don’t know how to do crafts so I just have a craft box.
4. I am almost never decent enough to answer my front door so I just hide in my pantry If my doorbell ever rings (my 1 year old, however, usually stands at the front door staring out at whoever is attempting to summon me). Furthermore- I wash my face, brush my teeth and get dressed/ready 30 minutes before my husband gets home from work. I think he knows this but I’d still like to keep it a secret…. So I’ll just publicly post it here…
Eeesh that felt good and there is so much more but I’ll spare you. You can go ahead and start forgetting me now too.

I literally laughed out loud reading your comment. So fun. I think we live parallel lives. Hugs to you.

Amen to all your #1’s. I get every single one of them.
I tend to be a very serious person (I’ve been told many times to lighten up) but I cry really easily.
Looking forward to hearing you speak!

Thanks Stacy. 🙂 see you soon!

I am headed to Declare too and look forward to hearing you speak. I am so enjoying this linkup and the chance to learn a bit about other attendees before we get there. I really loved what you shared about your writing/blog. I could relate to all four. Safe travels. Looking forward to a wonderful few days.

“Jazz music while cooking something semi-fancy”… yes! hate the phone too!
(I don’t think I have ever commented before, but your blog is my favorite ever and the one I share from most often – I used to follow something like 20 blogs, mostly by christian women, but now I have cut the number to less than 5. )
Oh! I am in Chios island, Greece 🙂
