The winter crud has kindly settled onto our home. Not kindly. I laid in the bed on Tuesday with 102 degree fever, barely able to lift my head. That’s about when my middle son tried to comfort me by asking (with little emotion), “Are you going to die, mommy?” Kids.
In my immobility I decided to start thanking God. Because it was either that or flounder in my physical misery. It’s easy to focus on the negative. That comes natural. But choosing to see His love in the moment, that’s a choice that can stir up hope and faith. Even in the midst of the mess.

Granted I’m on the mend, yet ever aware that so many live with the reality of painful, tragic illnesses. But it seems a good choice. Thanksgiving. Like sweet Ann always talks about.
Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances;
for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.
1 Thessalonians 5:16 – 5:18
Me? I gave thanks for the (much needed) rest. I gave thanks for my man who took off work to keep our home going. I gave thanks for my kids who tried to help by rubbing my back and bringing me water (and asking me death questions). And I gave thanks for His timing since this yuck didn’t hit until after my weekend speaking engagements.
As His children we cannot exist apart from His love and grace. We can always see His love-touch if we’re willing to look past the physical. If we choose to trust that “Yes, my God loves me right now. Even in this. Here’s the proof…”
Next step…give thanks for my hearing while my kids whine in unison.
Fill me, Lord…
How have you seen thanksgiving stir up hope even in the valleys of life?
Kim Sorgius says
Sometimes when the valley is so deep, we find ourselves looking for BIG answers. But, I find that God has little blessings for me in every moment…if I am willing to see them that way. The more I look, the more I see. In EVERY moment, He really has blessed me.
Lara Gibson Williams says
Thanks for that, Kim. “The more I look.” We have to choose to look, don’t we. You inspire me with your testifying of His goodness.

Oh Lara, I have been here. and yes, this is IT,
“As His children we cannot exist apart from His love and grace. We can always see His love-touch if we’re willing to look past the physical”…
In counting my graces I always find a brighter outlook, a better perspective, a much needed swelling in my heart for the gifts of the Lord. Praying for you!

Hi sweet sister! So good “seeing” you. Praying this finds you blessed, friend.

I hope you are feeling better. His love touch, what a beautiful phrase.
