I wrote this post at the end of a long day. It was one of *those* days where you sit down in the evening quiet and wonder if you really made much of a difference. Because life felt loud and whiny and breakfast dishes were still piled in the sink.
It was one of those days where I had to break away to my secret place (a.k.a. the bathroom) a number of times just to regain His perspective.
He patiently waits for us to call out to Him.
Jesus talked about prayer in last week’s verses from the Sermon on the Mount. Interesting since I dreamed about prayer and wrote about prayer and grew ever more convinced about the power of prayer.
In this text, Jesus again pointed to our heart. He challenged us to look at why we pray — to be seen by man or to be seen by God.
In days like this long day, I know. My “why” was pure desperation.
O God, you are my God; earnestly I seek you;
my soul thirsts for you;
my flesh faints for you,
as in a dry and weary land where there is no water.
Psalm 63:1
He sees when our hearts get tangled up in today. And He patiently waits for us to stop trying to fix everyone and everything on our own. We’re a needy people. We need to stop. collaborate. and listen. (Wow. Did I just go there? Sorry.)
We need to earnestly seek our Lord. Yes, need. He hears and His Spirit mends.
Fill me, Lord…
Where do you go in the middle of messy days to get alone with Him?
For those memorizing the Sermon on the Mount with me, this week is a (much-needed) breather week. Spend these next seven days catching up. We’ll dive back in with new verses next Sunday.
