I spoke at a women’s retreat this weekend and met some amazing ladies — women who desire to abide in our gracious Lord and have His Word abide in them, regardless of their circumstance. What a treasure.
Now I sit quiet, alone with my God on (quite possibly) the most comfortable bed in Mississippi, waiting to fly home to my family. And I thought of our current challenge to memorize the Sermon on the Mount.
I’ve been in John 15 all weekend. And Jesus so clearly explains it in the text. Unless we abide in Him and His Word abides in us we will not bear fruit. (John 15:5) We can’t. We can’t love the unlovely or forgive the unforgivable on our own. Those things grow out of our abiding.
As a woman who desires to live the victorious, abundant life He promises, I have some choices to make. I choose to abide in Him and have His Word abide in me. I have to choose it. Today.
So to my fellow Sermon-on-the-Mountonians (you like that?), let’s press on and abide in His Word this week that we may bear fruit.
Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God. Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God. Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Matthew 5:8-10
